Trip itinerary example 1: Windmills & Villages

This is our most popular itinerary and a good choice for first time visitors to Holland. You experience Holland in a nutshell, with windmills, countryside and famous villages like Volendam and Marken. There's also plenty of cheese, chocolate and waffles, so you definitely won't go hungry! This route is directly north of Amsterdam.

9:00 - Pick-up at hotel
We normally pick you up at 9 in the morning. Later or earlier is no problem.
9:30 - Zaanse Schans windmill village
We visit the Zaanse Schans windmill village. Of course we go into one of the windmills and see how it works.
11:30 - Cheese farm
We visit a cheese farm near Edam, one of the famous cheese making towns in Holland.
12:30 - Volendam
Volendam lies on a dike next to a big fresh water lake. Volendam is also a good place to try some Dutch seafood, like herring.
13:30 - Lunch in Marken
We go for lunch in the picturesque town of Marken. Whether you like to eat in a fine restaurant or just grab a cheese sandwich: just let us know and we’ll arrange it for you!
15:00 - Waterland
We drive through Waterland, the ‘wetlands of Amsterdam’. It’s an area with cute little villages, like Zuiderwoude, Broek in Waterland and Ransdorp.
16:00 - Back in Amsterdam
Our guide drops you off at your hotel.

Trip itinerary example 2: Castles & Gardens

This is a gorgeous trip to the southeast of Amsterdam. We show you the hidden spots we Dutch like to keep secret for the outside world. We see the fortified towns and countryside castles that form the ancient defence line of Amsterdam, now UNESCO World Heritage. Afterwards we drive along beautiful rivers to the summer palaces of wealthy merchands of the Golden Age.

9:00 - Pick-up at hotel
We normally pick you up at 9 in the morning.
9:30 - Amsterdam Castle
We visit Muiden and the Muiderslot, also known as Amsterdam Castle.
11:00 - Naarden Fortress Village
Naarden is a star-shaped fortress village. It was the key to the defence of Holland.
12:00 - River palaces
We drive along small, dreamy rivers like the Vecht and the Angstel. These streams are lined with summer palaces from the 17th century, like Castle Nederhorst and Castle Loenersloot.
14:00 - Ouderkerk aan de Amstel
Following the streams Holendrecht and Bullewijk we head to Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, an ancient village just south Amsterdam.
15:00 - River Amstel
We drive north along the Amstel, the river that gave Amsterdam its name.
16:00 - Back in Amsterdam
We drop you off at your hotel.

Trip itinerary example 3: Old Holland

This route shows the best of Old Holland. It's a region with open spaces, big skies, reclaimed land, picturesque villages and of course windmills. It's not yet discovered by mass tourism: you won't find any other visitor here.

09:00 - Pick-up at hotel
We leave at 9AM and drive to Alkmaar.
10:00 - Alkmaar
We visit Alkmaar. Every friday from the end of March to the end of September Alkmaar has the famous cheese market. Probably the best in The Netherlands.
11:30 - Into Low Holland
We head to the Schermer, one of the largest reclaimed land areas in Holland. It’s completely flat and stretches out over the horizon. We can visit one of the mills that drained the water back in the 17th century.
12:00 - The Schermer
This is the most iconic Dutch landscape there is: flat green pastures with cows, dikes and windmills.
13:00 - Fishing village Graft-De Rijp
De Rijp used to be a fishing and whaling village. Then the sea was reclaimed and De Rijp got surrounded by land on all sides. De Rijp is like a time capsule. It’s one of the most cute villages in Holland.
13:45 - The Beemster
The Beemster is the most awesome reclaimed land area. It’s also the place where the famous Beemster cheese is made. We can visit the cheese factory and drink fresh apple juice straight from the orchard.
14:30 - Zaanse Schans
We save the best for last: the final stop is Zaanse Schans windmill village.
16:00 - Back in Amsterdam
We drop you off at your hotel.

Amazing Tour! Great food, sights and awesome guides. We had an awesome time. We were a large group, but easily accommodated by Holland Windmills. The atmosphere was amazing, the weather was perfect, and the sights were beautiful.

I was visiting from out of state with my family, most of whom had never been to Holland before, and we thought a tour would be a good idea - we're sure glad that we did! The experienced guide made sure that the whole day went smoothly, and luckily for us the weather was great. Highly recommended!
